Our School

Principal’s Welcome

Bribie Island State High School is a co-educational secondary school located on an Island with a population of 16 000, situated 100 kilometres north of Queensland’s capital city. The school opened its doors to its first student intake on January 23, 1989 with 300 students. We now have a school population of over 1000 students and 100 employees.

Our vision is to be a leader in secondary education, through the provision of the best value education for Island families, responsive to their needs and aspirations. We have close working relationships with the two Primary Schools on the Island, Bribie Island State School and Banksia Beach State School, including secondary transition programs.

We enact our school vision through a strong focus on the following characteristics common to successful schools:

  • A clear and shared direction, as outlined in our Statement of Purpose;
  • A safe, supportive environment conducive to learning;
  • Student achievement and recognition;
  • High standards and expectations in all areas of school life;
  • Effective teaching and learning through the provision of a quality curriculum;
  • High levels of parent involvement.

The prospectus outlines some of the many programs and activities that the school offers to ensure your child has the best possible secondary education and is prepared for life beyond high school, as reflected in our school motto, “Achieving Our Future”.

The School is far more than a provider of an academically rigorous education. We think about our students as young men and women; we care for them and about them, and we have high expectations of them – and ourselves. As educators we are constantly searching for new ideas, and the latest research to inform what we provide to our students and how we deliver it.

Our innovative approach to school organisation means that you won’t feel lost at Bribie Island State High School. All students become members of one of four distinct Learning Communities, building strong and lasting relationships with a team of teachers and peers. The Learning Communities are the foundation for our strong pastoral care program and facilitate open and effective lines of communication with parents.

Our school has an international focus embedded in the curriculum, supported by international study tours to Cambodia, Rome and Japan as well as hosting international students from Asia, Europe and America for long and short term stays.

A Bribie Island High School education prepares young people for a full and active role as global citizens with the skills, confidence and resilience to live and make a difference in an ever changing world.

Our past students talk about their passion for their school and the opportunities it provided. We are proud to be a quality public education provider.  We encourage our students to push to be the best but to do so with integrity and humility.

This web site presents the programmes and philosophies of the School, including details of our curriculum, co-curriculum and student care programme plus leading initiatives such as Educational and Career Planning, Learning Communities Academy program, International Focus and Community Service.

If you are considering Bribie Island State High School for your child I would encourage you to contact the office to speak to a member of staff or arrange a visit. Enrolment packages are available via the website or from the school office.

We are delighted to be able to share our school with you.

Regards

Brett Burgess, Principal
